A YOUNG woman who made "vile" phone calls has been jailed.

Chantelle Perry, 25, of Kingston Mews, Florence Road, admitted making the calls when she appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court yesterday (Tuesday).

She was sent to prison for six weeks as the offence was considered so serious because it was "vile...causing fear to the victim and their family", magistrates decided.

Perry had been charged with making calls that were "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character" contrary to the Communications Act 2003.

She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.
