MORE than 1,000 have signed a petition opposing multi-million pound plans to convert a riverside car park into flats, shops, offices and restaurants.
Petition organiser Martin Pakes says he wants to get more than the 1,100 names already collected to press for the proposals for Taunton’s Coal Orchard to be dumped.
Mr Pakes says the detailed plans beat little resemblance to the outline plans agreed by Taunton Deane Borough Council in April.
The scheme would see parking spaces reduced from 120 to 49 spaces, while the former St James Pool building would be demolished.
A council spokeswoman said people have been able to comment on the plan and the authority is unable to comment further on a ‘live’ application.
