WHEN I popped into the Barry the Baker shop in South Road, Taunton, for a loaf I was tempted to buy a slice of cake too but was concerned about the windowed box that the staff were putting together just for my one slice.

The inside of the cardboard looked plastic-coated for food contact but I thought that would mean I couldn’t put it in the cardboard recycling box.

At home, I was about to throw the box away when I noticed the “fully compostable 100 per cent biodegradable, made from plants” information on the side of it.

If a small bakery like Barry can do this, why aren’t larger organisations making sure that all their boxes and windowed envelopes are 100 per cent biodegradable?

Well done Barry. Thumbs up to you.
