ON the first day of my wife and I’s holiday in Watchet last week, I was taken unexpectedly ill with chest pains.

My wife decisively rushed me to the A&E department of Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital.

Within five minutes of arriving I was being clinically assessed and within about half an hour was undergoing angioplasty treatment for a life-threatening heart attack.

Despite the shock of this, at the conclusion of the procedure I felt remarkably normal. I then remained in the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital for another three days.

I would like to express my extreme and deeply-felt admiration to the medical and nursing staff at Musgrove Park.

I was not only hugely impressed by their efficient, technically capable professionalism but also greatly moved by the genuinely caring and empathetic approach of all these fine people.

I would like to thank Dr Tom McConnell and all his team including Carlos and Fabio. Also nurses Nancy, Hayley, Lee, Maggie (chest pain nurse), Natasha, Cat, Lily, Gibi, Jaqui (rehab nurse) plus the several others whose names (I apologise) I cannot remember.

Not only was I treated exceptionally well but was kept informed at all times.

All the staff introduced themselves personally and any commercial business would have admired their outstanding ‘customer care’.

The above are all people of mature and devoted professionalism, and the inhabitants of Taunton and its surrounding areas are very fortunate to have them staffing their local health service.

Thank you, once again.
