IT is clear to me that (Taunton Deane Borough) council is engaged in a praiseworthy attempt to strengthen Taunton’s environmental credentials.
What other county town can boast an unspoilt heathland at its heart?
I suspect that the botany departments of Bristol and Exeter Universities are vying to have the Firepool area declared a site of special botanical interest.
If the council can only resist the blandishments of the developers for a few score more years, we might have a Taunton Forest surrounded by croc-infested waters.
Surely, a tourist magnet! Hopefully.
