CHILDREN and staff at a Taunton nursery have received a heart-warming letter from the newly-wed royal couple.

The team at Abacus Nursery, Cheddon Road, helped the children design and send a well-wishing card to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle congratulating them on their wedding day.

To their surprise, they received a letter back, thanking them for their kind thoughts.

Claire Kevan, manager, said: "Just before the Royal Wedding, last May, the staff decided that the nursery should send Prince Harry and Megan Markle a wedding card so the children designed cards and one was sent.

"To celebrate the event we also held a special day for all of the children.

"When the post arrived last week and we opened the card from the royal couple we felt very lucky.

"We have put the card proudly on display at the nursery."

The card, featuring a smiling photo of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex described how the couple had been 'overwhelmed' by the 'incredibly kind' cards and letters they had received.

The letter added: "They are so touched that you took the trouble to write as you did. It really was most thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated by Their Royal Highnesses, who send you their very best wishes."

The card now has a proud spot on the nursery's wall.

Sophie, a support supervisor at the nursery, said: "It was a shock for everyone at the nursery to receive the card, the children were amazed. We really were delighted."
