TAUNTON singer Aliette Goodman, 17, performed at the Manchester Caribbean Carnival just hours after 10 people were injured in a shooting incident nearby during the early hours of Sunday.

Aliette, who sang songs from her new album Black Book, said: "As I was travelling up to Manchester on Sunday morning friends were sending me links to the newspaper reports about the shooting.

"This was a gig I wasn’t going to miss, though, and it never crossed my mind to turn around.

"I got a great reception, and would jump at the chance to go back next year.

"It’s such a shame that people were hurt after the carnival closed on Saturday, and I do hope that the carnival continues because it is such a positive event for the community."

Aliette, who was thrilled to be on the same stage as Manchester rapper RMDY, is appearing at the New Inn, Halse, on Saturday, September 1.
