RINGWOOD’S new carnival queen has performed one of her first official duties.
Katherine Douglas, 16, began a busy few weeks by visiting the offices of the carnival sponsor, Ellis Jones Solicitors, in Southampton Road.
Katherine, who was accompanied by her attendants Georgia D’Cruze and Alana Morris, was welcomed by Ellis Jones partner Matthew Clake.
The teenager, who enjoys tennis and musical theatre, said: “I’m very excited and looking forward to the carnival. I’ve wanted to be carnival queen for years.”
Preparations are now well under way for the event on September 15.
The carnival comprises a children’s procession in the afternoon, followed by an illuminated parade in the evening.
The Bickerley will host a
funfair, trade stands and community stalls, plus a firework display.
The carnival president, Michael Lingam-Willgoss, said: “It’s a fantastic event which is not only great fun but also raises thousands of pounds for charity. We seem to go from strength to strength.”
The carnival was first held in 1928.
