YOU can now donate to save your local swimming pool.

Following last week's public meeting, the 'core group' has completed a number of vital steps towards keeping the pool open.

This includes setting up a bank account and JustGiving page so members of the public pledge their funds to the cause.

Cllr Amanda Broom is Chard North's county councillor and a member of the community pool core group.

She said: "The money will go towards maintenance, equipment purchase, utility costs and any other associated costs with running a community pool.

"All monies will be used solely for this purpose. We have put £5,000 to start with, but this figure will change as things progress."

Part of the succession plans also include returning the pool to its original name - Kingfisher Community Pool.

Cllr Broom said: "We have over one hundred volunteers (numbers increasing daily) who have offered their time & skills to help us operate a community Big Build to refurbish the pool as much as we can.

"We will need to show Somerset County Council that we can also afford to operate the pool - in advance of income from users."

The group are also looking for larger donations from businesses.

She added: "Please donate what you can afford, and if you cannot afford to donate then offer your time so we can keep this pool running for the good of the whole community.

"If your donation is significant, then please let us have a cheque to pop straight into the bank account - thank you."

Cheques should be made payable to ‘Kingfisher Community Pool’
