SOMERSET Sabres are in line for a double promotion after cruising to a 110-run win against Leicestershire Foxes in the floodlit Pro40 clash at the County Ground on Tuesday.

It was Somerset's third Pro40 victory in five days and has sent them top of Division Two.

Another win from their two remaining matches should be enough to earn the Cidermen a top two spot and a place in the top flight in 2008.

Brian Rose, Somerset's director of cricket, said: "We will be going out to win both of our remaining games, but I think if we can get just one victory we should go up."

Somerset's last two games are away to Surrey in a day-night game on September 11 and at home to Middlesex at the County Ground on September 15.

In front of 5,000 fans and Sky cameras, the Cidermen were suprisingly asked to bat first.

It was a decision the visitors' skipper Jeremy Snape was soon regretting as openers Marcus Trescothick (56 off 40 balls) and Craig Kieswetter (44) shared a partnership of 89.

Justin Langer kept the momentum going with 53 off 47 balls, but the highspot of the innings was the sixth wicket partnership between Wes Durston, (43 off 28 balls) and James Hildreth (47 not out from 28). The former Millfield School pair added 86 off just 50 balls to see the Sabres to 287-6.

Apart from the opening few overs when Nick Walker hit 26 off 14 balls, the Foxes were never really in the chase. That was due to another excellent all-round performance from Somerset's bowlers and fielders.

Three run outs and a fine spell from Andy Caddick, who ended with 3-40 off 7.1 overs, saw the Foxes dismissed for 177 to give the hosts victory by 110 runs with almost four overs to spare.

Rose said: "It was a superb all-round performance and what impressed me most was our fielding which was fantastic.

"This has been an area we have been working hard on all season and this performance showed it has paid off.

"I thought everyone, both young and old, fielded very well indeed.

"All of our batsmen did well although nobody went on to get big runs for us. The outstanding partnership was between Wes Durston and James Hildreth and it was one of the best I have seen this season."
