WELLINGTON couple Eve and Alan Jenkins collected £625 for a cancer charity in lieu of presents for their golden wedding anniversary.
The cash has been handed over to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.
Other donations last week included £190.50 from Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club from a members; fundraising competition.
Collection pots totalled £55 from Tesco Express, North Petherton, and £23 from Wembdon Post Office and Stores.
The 5p collection initiative raised £56.70 from Joy Irish and the members of the Ivy House Park Social Club, Henlade; £3.25 left at the Beacon Centre from Pauline; £20 from Claire Bull and Mary Bull; and £35.10 from Mrs Cross and friends of Taunton.
A total of £193.69 from the Beacon Centre included £173.05 in 5ps.
The week's total of £1,202.24 takes the total raised since SURE linked up with the County Gazette to £795,111.70.
