IT'S full steam ahead for this year's Wellington Carnival tonight.

The annual event is set to attract hundreds of people this weekend as over 50 floats and walking entries from a wide area look to dazzle the crowds parading through the town.

Wellington Carnival Committee's chairman Josephine Chave told the County Gazette: "Everything's nearly all in place - but we could do with someone to help move the barriers.

"I'm looking forward to it - I'm always glad to see the procession go by safely.

"I hope we'll get lots of people coming along."

Now in its 120th year, the carnival hits the streets of Wellington this Saturday at 7.30pm.

The parade will feature Wellington Majorettes, Miss Wellington Zia Taylor, her attendant, Hannah Taylor, and princesses Shannon Slade and Amy Gillard.

It will make its way through Rockwell Green, Exeter Road, Mantle Street, Fore Street, Taunton Road and Chelston Roundabout.

In the weeks after the Wellington parade the carnival will head to Ilminster, Chard and Crewkerne before arriving in Taunton on Saturday, October 20.

There is still time to help with Wellington Carnival and anyone who can offer support is asked to contact Mrs Chave on 01823-662339.
