Gunman told to wait for sentencing

A GUNMAN has admitted stealing thousands of pounds in a series of armed attacks on banks and building societies across the country.

Derek Jameson Hyslop, 31, pleaded guilty at Taunton Crown Court last Thursday to seven robberies on six different occasions.

He also admitted six charges of possessing an imitation firearm, namely a BB gun, with intent to commit robbery.

And he also admitted three counts of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Hyslop, who the court was told has a "substantial criminal record", pleaded to be sentenced.

But Judge Stephen O'Malley remanded him in custody pending a pre-sentence report and ordered that sentence be given by a circuit judge.

The judge said: "I need to know a good deal more about himand have to consider dangerousness as well."

Hyslop told the judge: "I don't wish to have the report done - I don't think it is going to help me."

The court also heard that there are recordings and photos of some of the incidents.
