A SMALL rural primary school has been told there are no plans to close it "in the foreseeable future".
Stawley Primary School is looking to federate' with another school - both will be run by one governing body, with no effect on their day-to-day running.
Somerset County Council has announced it is holding formal consultations about the future of five primaries, including Blagdon Hill.
Councillors have also recommended Stawley to federate before carrying out a review of all schools in the Wellington and Wiveliscombe area.
Chairman of the governors Nicola Civil, in a letter to parents, said the schools is recognised by the county as "providing an outstanding curriculum and excellent opportunities for learning".
It received a successful OFSTED report last year.
Mrs Civil added: "We would like to reiterate that we are not under threat of closure."
Judith Richardson, Head of Service for Raising Achievement at Somerset County Council said: "Stawley Primary School is a successful school and is drawing in pupils from over the border.
"We feel that federation of one or more schools would help in the dissemination of best practice and the raising of standards.
"There will be no consultation on closure of the school in the foreseeable future."
