A HAIRDRESSER who beat leukaemia has been raising funds for cancer charities.
Carolyn Edwards, who gives up her day off once a month to support the charities, has raised £220 for the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment.
The cash will go towards equipment for the new Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.
Carolyn opens Jane Adams Salon, in Station Road, on the second Monday every month and donates her takings to one of four charities each time.
As well as SURE, she supports Musgrove Leukaemic Group, the Anthony Nolan Trust and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, where she received life-saving treatment.
Her next charity day is Monday, May 12 - anyone can drop in for a haircut, colour, style or highlights from 10am-4pm, or book an appointment on 01823-270950.
SURE treasurer Eric Saffin said: "We're very grateful to Carolyn - it's a really great effort."
Other donations include £105 from the Saturday Dance Club; £25 from Mr and Mrs Silvers; and £2,780 from a charity fund raised during outgoing Taunton Deane Mayor Cllr Ken Hayward's year in office.
The running total of the SURE appeal raised through the Gazette stands at £110,648.
Meanwhile, three bingo sessions will bolster the campaign - it's eyes down at 7.30pm tomorrow (Friday) at Norton Fitzwarren Village Hall and Donyatt Bowling Club and 7.30pm on Saturday at Creech St Michael Village Hall.
Christine Cann is organising a fun weekend in Stoke St Mary on Saturday, July 5 and is appealing for unwanted crockery, blankets and pallets - to help, call her on 01823-278023 or Eric Saffin on 01823-412730.
