Stephen is new Rotary president

STEPHEN Smith has taken over as president of Taunton Vale Rotary Club.

He was congratulated on his appointment by retiring president David Montgomery as the club assembly and handover meeting at Oake Manor Golf Club on Monday.

Reflecting on his year in office, Mr Montgomery said: "It was a year of achievement in which we gained new members, but sadly lost others, and a number of local charities benefited from the various charity events held by the club.

"I'm particularly pleased with the success of It's Childsplay' in May, which was supported by the Somerset County Gazette, and which should go on to become a big event in coming years for children's hospices in the South-West and beyond."
