HER Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex was greeted by schoolchildren and well-wishers when she officially opened a children’s centre in Norton Fitzwarren.

The centre called Brock House, provides support and advice for parents and carers of children under five and is managed by Barnardo’s South West on behalf of Somerset County Council.

The Countess was greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, children from Norton Fitwarren Primary School and civic dignitaries.

She spent over an hour looking around the centre and chatting to staff, parents and children.

Chairman of the Brock House Forum and county councillor Brigadier Christopher Wolverson, said: “The planning and building involved a true partnership between Somerset County Council, the Parish Council, Barnardo’s, the Wooden Spoon Charity and many others. It will provide wonderful support for our young children and parents in the Norton Fitzwarren area. As a father and grandfather, I know just how much this is needed in today's world.”

Brock House also offers support to parents who are considering training and employment, as well as high-quality childcare and pre-school education from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
