ANOTHER pet owner has come forward after her cat was shot by a pellet gun.

Kathy Stone from Monkton Heathfield spoke to the Gazette after reading about Pauline Lott’s English Pointer last week, which was shot in the head by an airgun in a field behind West Monkton Primary School.

Kathy said one-year-old Harry, who was a rescue cat, was also shot and had to undergo an operation.

She said: “The vet said he was very lucky the pellet went into his stomach and didn’t damage any major organs.

“He was a very timid cat anyway and this has really taken him back.

“He was just starting to feel safe but now he doesn’t like to leave the house and will is worse than ever.

“It’s awful – he shouldn’t have to go through that, he’s been through enough in his life anyway.”

Cllr Ray Tully said he is “extremely” concerned about the incidents and is urging people to be vigilant.

“One is bad enough but now we know there’s been more than one shooting it’s more than concerning.

“It is a route used by school children and elderly people walking their dogs – what if they’re next?

“If you’re hit it stings and it’s a pain but if someone got one in the eye then they would be in serious trouble.”

A reward of £250 is being offered to any information that leads to prosecution.

Anyone with information should call police on 0845-4567000 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
