AN alien invasion is threatening Exmoor, according to Biodiversity South-West.
They say a growth of Japanese knotweed, non-native to the area, is posing a threat to some of the native flora and fauna of Exmoor.
Japanese knotweed is one of Britain’s most invasive weeds, and can be seen in over 650 sites across Exmoor National Park.
To help eradicate the weed, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the National Trust and Exmoor National Park Authority have teamed up to form the Exmoor Knotweed Control Project.
The project has been running for a number of years and although progress has been made partners say they are aware there is still a “considerable way to go.”
If you spot any species of knotweed while out and about on Exmoor contact the project on 01398-323665 or click on the related link.
