FOOTBALLING student Rob Clowes, of Queen’s College, Taunton, not only netted a fine set of GCSE results, but was also delighted to be selected for his Yeovil Town FC debut.

Rob, who signed for Yeovil Town earlier this year, came into collect his GCSE results - 5A*s, 5As, and a B - and told the school that he’d also just been picked for his first team debut.

He said: “At the last minute I was told that some FA paperwork wasn’t complete so I couldn’t play in the match, which was pretty gutting,” said Rob, who begins a science A-level course at Queen’s this week, “but it looks like I’ll be on the bench within the next few weeks.”

Overall it was a another excellent year for students at Queen’s, with 55% gaining A*/A grades, hitting the school’s consistent five-year average.

“It’s hard work from the pupils and excellent teaching from the staff that produces such good results year after year,” said headmaster Chris Alcock.

“What I’m also delighted about is that all our pupils gained the crucial five A*-C grades, which is the fundamental qualification for continuing their education.”
