Dellers to re-open

DELLERS Wharf nightclub in Taunton will be reopened after being taken over by a new owner.

The beleaguered nightclub closed in August after a drop in custom.

But new owner Johnny Davis hopes to bring new life into the club and Taunton’s night time economy.

He said: “I lived in Somerset and went to Somerset College so I keep in touch with a lot of friends in Taunton.

“I got a phone call saying Dellers was shutting and I thought I couldn’t let it happen.

“I managed to track down the owners and it all went from there.”

Johnny has over 21 years experience in the business including setting up three Oceana chain clubs and running a nightclub on the south coast for 13 years.

He hopes to re-brand the club in the New Year with a host of changes including transforming the site into a twin venue with an illuminated dance floor.

“The two bars will stay as bars and the two floors will be branded as two different nightclubs,” He added.

“Next would be making a café bar underneath.”

And Johnny is hoping to work with other agencies in the town to promote Taunton’s night time economy.

He said: “It’s all about working together to draw people back into Taunton.

“The local council is working to promote the bars, clubs and restaurants.

“And we’ve had support form the police and licensing authority.”

I can't wait until Dellers opens again. It was a brilliant place to end the night when I used to go out in Taunton and it was a shame when it closed. Good luck to Johnny Davis!

i think dellers needs a good make over its been stuck in the 80s for to long if mr davis can bring oceana's to taunton like it is in milton kyenes i think he will be adding a touch of class to the club and it will be packed everytime it opens a restuarant down stairs where people can talk and two or three arena's with diferent types of music whether it be hardcore , trance, 80s 90s , to get all types of age groups back to the best club in town this club would even pull in punters from further areas in my opinion its just what the town needs best of luck to you mr davis hope you pull it off

I think Dellers re-opening will revive Taunton's nightlife giving the town just what we need. Good luck Johnny Davis, make us proud!!

If he creates one of those awful, homogenous Oceania -type clubs then i can see the youngsters of Taunton taking a liking to Dellers, what with they boys who stare at themselves in the mirrors, and the girls who latch onto anything that moves that will buy them a drink. If he, however, listens to what the people of Taunton want (they already have a club matching my aforementioned description called Shout), he could make this a success. Help and guidance from the council is also a must. Good luck Mr Davis.

Sounds like he has the experience and if he works with the other nightspots rather than trying to go head-to-head with them (which is what the old Dellers tried and failed at) then it should do well. Good luck!

I know Johnny Davis's club nights and have been to several of the clubs he has run and promoted over the years - he is extremely professional, responsible and successful and I am sure he will make it a fantastic venue that will be an asset to the local area - what a shame about the needle nosed comments - with that attitude nobody would ever do anything, no wonder the economy needs a helping hand. Hopefully that is the minority view, good luck Johnny I am sure it will be great for you and for people in Taunton, I look forward to coming to visit when you're open!
