Politicians grilled at West Somerset Community College

PUPILS from West Somerset Community College grilled local politicians at a special Question Time event.

The Year 13 learners quizzed West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger and prospective parliamentary candidates Theo-Butt Philip and Kathy Pearce on topical issues as part of a themed day looking at opportunities for people when they reach the age of 18.

With a General Election less than a year away, the event gave many of the students a chance to engage with the political process for the first time.

Head of sixth form Jerry Hardingham said: “The students listened intently as the politicians expressed their views and concerns on these matters and engaged in the debate, too.

“It was also very helpful for the politicians to listen to our young people and learn about the concerns they have for their futures, too.”
