TAUNTON MP Jeremy Browne visited Beech Grove primary school in Wellington to see the pupils pay tribute to the children who were evacuees in the Second World War.

Mr Browne said: "The pupils at Beech Grove primary school were dressed as Second World War evacuees and they have clearly become fascinated by the history of that time.

"They performed some suitable songs - including The White Cliffs of Dover - and many of the pupils had also written moving poems about the experiences of evacuees.

"Added poignancy was given to the performances by the presence of Wellington residents who were evacuees themselves or who fought in the Second World War.

"Sixty-four years have now passed since victory in World War Two but it remains of importance and relevance to subsequent generations.

“The successful defence of our freedom and independence was the greatest achievement in the history of Britain.

"I admire the innovative way that the pupils at Beech Grove primary school have studied the Second World War and its impact on children of their own age."
