West Somerset children's play charity scoops top award

WEST Somerset children’s play charity CLOWNS has received a top award for its toy library.

The organisation is the first in Somerset to be awarded the ‘Quality Assurance’ mark by The National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries (NATLL) and is the first to attain it without their assistance.

The association’s Tim Bearcroft travelled across from London to present CLOWNS with the award.

CLOWNS co-ordinator Kathy Morton said: “I would like to thank all the staff team for their dedication in the running of the toy library and in particular Davina Jones Bartlett for her dedication in achieving this award.”

The award assessor said the toy library thought carefully about all aspects of its service, including marketing, publicity and image, adding: “The toy library benefits greatly from being part of CLOWNS which must be congratulated on its bright and attractive image.

“As a parent, carer of children, to see the CLOWNS vehicles and the staff appearing with their bright print t-shirts would fill me with delight.”

The toy library celebrated its 20th anniversary in May 2009.

The static toy library is based at the CLOWNS office to the right of The West Somerset Sports and Leisure Centre in Minehead and is open Mondays-Wednesdays 9.30am-4pm during term time.

Toys can be hired from 30p to £1 per toy per fortnight and annual subscriptions are £1.50 per individual and £5 for groups.
