PEOPLE in Somerset can now raise money for local charities and voluntary groups just by recycling their newspapers and magazines.
A new paper bank scheme has been set up by Perrys Recycling and Somerset Community Foundation and the first facility has been launched at Tesco in Langport.
Residents can use the paper bank to recycle newspapers, magazines, junk mail and telephone directories.
Staff and pupils from Huish Episcopi Primary School are endorsing the initiative and attended the launch with their papers to start the recycling campaign.
The paper is processed at Perrys’ depots and then sold to Aylesford Newsprint in Kent to be made into newsprint.
The foundation receives £10 for every tonne banked.
Perrys hopes to expand the scheme and is looking for new sites, such as supermarkets, retail parks, village car parks and pub car parks.
Anyone interested in having a paper bank on their property, can contact David Harris on davidharris@perrys-recycling.co.uk or 01935-850111.
Somerset Community Foundation is a local independent charity that raises funds and awards grants to a wide range of community projects and voluntary groups which benefit local people.
