SOMERSET College of Arts and Technology in Taunton has been awarded the prestigious Charter Mark for customer service excellence in the public sector.

The college's performance was matched against criteria relating to all aspects of the service it offers.

The assessors were impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff and that the need to deliver a positive learning experience for students is of paramount importance to them.

The Charter Mark, issued by the Charter Mark and Beacon Unit of the Cabinet Office, praises the college's achievements in setting standards, providing full information, consulting those who use the college and encouraging access and treating all fairly.

SCAT principal and chief executive said: "We are proud to receive this important accolade.

"Providing an excellent service for our customers is at the heart of what we do and we are committed to the continuous raising of standards."

Liz Payne-Ahmadi, director of customer service at the college, is to attend the winners' celebration at The Brewery, Chiswell Street in London on October 22.
