THE two main candidates in the General Election in Taunton Deane have clashed over a hustings at Richard Huish College, Taunton.
Conservative candidate Mark Formosa is not attending the event, prompting LibDem Jeremy Browne to ask him to change his mind and participate.
Mr Browne said the college debate was attended by hundreds of students at the last election.
He said: “It was an ideal opportunity for young people to listen to the candidates and ask questions.
“I assume that Mark Formosa thinks his ideas won’t be attractive to a large number of more progressive and forward-looking young people.”
Mr Formosa said he was informed about the event too late, saying his agent was unable to fit the date into his busy campaign.
He said: “I was pleased to learn that if they wish Richard Huish College students can attend the hustings at Somerset College to hear me speak and answer questions.”
- Planned hustings include: Wellington School, April 22, 7pm; April 25, Temple Methodist Church , 7.30pm; Wiveliscombe Community Centre, April 26, 7pm; April 29, Taunton School, 8pm, TS theatre; April 30, 1pm, Heathfield Community School, assembly hall.
