THE final round of Netball South West Regional League matches were all played in Penryn in Cornwall on Sunday with Galmington Netball Club having a tough fixture against Plymouth Pilgrims, who needed to win to retain their hopes of qualifying for a National League play-off place.

Those hopes evaporated very early as Galmington completely dominated their old rivals in the first quarter to build a 15-8 lead.

Galmington continued to play superb team netball in the next period to extend their advantage to 28-18 at half-time.

Galmington were brilliant in all areas of the court and increased their lead to 40-28 in the third and in the fourth they comfortably record a magnificent win by 47-35. Trident also finished their Regional League season on a high as they recorded their sixth consecutive win with victory over Division Two opponents Team Bath B.

Trident dominated the first quarter to take an 8-1 lead before Bath responded well to reduce the deficit to just three goals at half-time.

Trident’s defensive unit of Abbie Pepperell, Joanna James and Laura Phelps was again in excellent form as they constantly restricted Bath’s attacking options to leave Trident 21-17 ahead at the start of the final quarter.

They resisted the Bath pressure in the last period to maintain their lead winning by 31 goals to 27.

In the Somerset League Premier Division Claremont found an experienced Gems team too strong in Bridgwater and trailed 31-10 at the halfway point.

However, Claremont battled well in the second-half, with goalkeeper Tanya Contreras again impressive, to secure a bonus point despite going down to a 56-30 defeat.

Parkfield hosted Bishops of Wells in Division One and were only 12-9 behind after the first quarter.

Bishops increased their lead to 23-17 at half-time but Parkfield, for whom Rachel Keitch, playing out of position at goal defence, and wing defence Amy Evens combined well, were still very much in the match until Bishops pulled away in the closing stages to win by 43 goals to 32.

Queensway faced Division Two rivals Rubies in Bridgwater and an evenly contested first half, in which goal attack Helen Hunter was in good form for Queensway, finished with the Bridgwater side narrowly 19-16 ahead. Unfortunately that was as close as it got for Queensway as Rubies pulled away to win 49-26.

Newbarn were also in Bridgwater to play Emeralds who had already secured promotion from Division Three and the young Newbarn found Emeralds in dominant form as they slipped to a 48-10 defeat.

Taunton Netball Club Premier Division side Vivary were host to Sharks of Stanchester at the weekend.

It was a close first period with Vivary ahead 11-10. As the game progressed Vivary settled down and with good team play pulled away to comfortable win this fixture 55-38.

Premier side Tone were up against league leaders Jupiter of Bridgwater.

A tough game was expected and Tone pulled out all the stops to hold Jupiter 9-7 the first period. The second period was closely contested with Rachel Morgan and Hannah Robins supplying accurate passes into the attacking circle.

Jupiter started to pull away in the second half of the game and went on to win the game 47-32.

Division One side Quantock had a convincing win over Knaves of Glastonbury 41-24.

Division Three side Monmouth also had a convincing 47-25 win over Garnets of Sydenham.
