BRIAN Hendy romped to victory in the Vivary Seniors Maurice Dominey Two Clubs and a Putter competition in which he posted an inspiring 46 points.

Peter Jeffery came second with 44 points and Dave Hinton third with 43 points.

The results in the Ray Ingram Stableford were a little more conventional though John Blissitt did compile a well earned 40 points to take first place.

Dennis Galpin, Peter Corrick and Keith Parker came back second, third and fourth respectively sharing 38 points each.

The Spring Multiplier produced a wide range of scores but the top pairing were Chris Stone and Dave Hinton with 83 points closely followed by Peter Corrick and Terry Smith on 82.

Tony Lewis and Terry Watson trailed in third with 75 points.

Forty-eight seniors and their guests enjoyed the April outing to Ashbury where they played the Pine and Forest course in sunny but bracing weather.

Alan Stone just missed what would have proved an expensive hole-in-one and came back first with a memorable 38 points.

Keith Parker on 37 points and a better back nine took second place from Gerald Weaver with the same score.

It proved a memorable day too for octogenarian Derek Piper who triumphed at the par three second hole with ‘nearest the pin’.

IT has been a busy week at Pickeridge with three major competitions taking place — the Seniors Baffie Cup, the Ladies Spring Meeting and the Newton Cup, a mixed Better Ball competition for teams of three with the best two scores to count on each hole.

Results were as follows: Baffle Cup, April 19: Sixty-two members of the Senior's section took part and there was a very close contest for the first three places which were decided on countback.1 Ron Johnson 41pts; 2 Alan Itter 41pts; 3 David Farley 41pts.

Ladies Spring Meeting, April 20: Medal — Silver 1 Rosie Spragg 70 nett; 2 Jenny Scobie 71 nett; 3 Corinne Lyon 71 nett. Bronze — 1 Margaret Nation 61 nett; 2 Pam Mankin 69 nett; 3 Carolyn Grout 71 nett.

Stableford — Silver 1 Carole Rotheram 36pts; 2 Pat Follett 36pts. Bronze 1 Marion Birch 36pts, 2 Janet Smart 34pts.

Newton Cup, April 24: A total of 165 players and 55 teams took part in the Cup. 1 Simon Foster, Jon Foster and Simon Read 84pts; 2 Jon Hutt, Phill Barrett and Jill Steels 83pts; 3 Matt Gaskin, Mark Langford and Chris Dunlop 80pts on countback from Jon Snell, Ian Snell and Ray Martin.

VETERAN ex-local footballer Pat Vaughan continued his excellent run of form by completing a hat-trick of recent wins at the Vivary Park by winning both the French Cup and Spastics Cup.

These successes follow up his win in the Pro Am qualifier and as a result his handicap has been cut to 18.

Results were as follows: French Cup Bogey Competition, April 10: 1 Pat Vaughan +5; 2 Dave Channon +4.

2010 Club Night Stableford, April 14: 1 Les Adamson 31pts; 2 Darren Pengelly 30pts.

Spastics Cup Medal Competition, April 17: 1 Pat Vaughan nett 59; 2 Pete Jeffrey nett 60 (back nine).

Vivary Sixes, April 18: 1 Bill Parkman, Colin Murphy, Kleighton Butland and Gary Taylor.

THE annual Pattemore Cup was held at Oake Manor on Sunday.

The format was a mixed greensomes and the overall winners were Paul Sprackman and Evelyn O’Farrell.

Mike Sheppard and Di Whittaker came in second spot with 39pts while a reversal of Alan Whittaker and Cathy Sheppard came in third place with 38pts.

The Oake Juniors played their first match of the season, having had the original fixture cancelled and came away from Taunton and Pickeridge with a creditable 2-2 draw.

This coming Saturday they travel the short distance to Vivary Park with an 11am start.

In the Avalon League the 'A' team played at home to Wedmore and won a highly fought match 3.5pts to 1.5.

Club captain Lee Ayres had to birdie the 18th to win their match.

This Saturday Oake travel to Wedmore in a reversal where the home team will be hoping to get their revenge, while the B team are at home to Windwhistle.
