Devon and Cornwall League: Wellington 105, Saltash 0.

WELLINGTON completed their ‘perfect’ season with a resounding victory at home to Saltash on Saturday.

The 17-try romp means the champions finished the season with a 100% record, winning all 26 of their league matches.

Relegated Saltash were no match for the home side and were behind within four minutes as fly half Matt Parsons dummied his way down the left hand wing for the first score.

Three minutes later second row Adam Morgan benefitted from another sharp passage of passing initiated by wing Richard Porter for a try under the Posts which parsons converted.

Centre Matt Taylor was next to score as backs and forwards again combined to produce a display of bewildering movement.

The next 30 minutes continued in much the same vein as another nine tries were claimed before half time with Parsons and Morgan each adding a second, Taylor grabbing a further two with skipper Tim Jenkinson also getting two and tries for Chris Kitto, Mark Nichols and Konrad Breese.

The visitors were obviously relieved to hear the half-time whistle and it was also obvious that the referee was not going to allow the game to continue its full length such was the disparity between the two sides.

Another three quick tries followed from the restart going to Taylor for his fourth of the match, a second for Kitto and centre Micky Norman followed by Tim Jenkinson for his first ever hat-trick and the final score to replacement back Robin Trott.

During this period, veteran past club captain and first team secretary Andy Terry was brought on to make his 499th First team appearance to a rousing cheer from the very large home crowd.

As expected matters were terminated early with the agreement of both sides and celebrations to the most magnificent of seasons commenced shortly afterwards continuing long into the evening.

Wellington also hosted touring side Old Richmondians from Yorkshire who were on tour and they entertained the crowd in some style particularly with their version of the famous New Zealand Haka before the game to the tune and words of Humpty Dumpty. Their efforts in the Clubhouse afterwards were also much appreciated.
