AFTER years of entering competitions at Oake Manor Golf Club, former club captain Gerry Mangeolles won his maiden club competition in the Saturday stableford, winning on countback from Dave Hollow with 38 points. Alec Rowland came in third with a respectable 37.

In the Ladies Section, Janet Howe was the Division 1 winner and overall winner of stableford 5 with 40 points. Ladies captain Mo Young was second with 34 on countback from Di Whittacker. Division 2 top spot went to Eveleen o’Farrell with 33. Ginny Farnworth-Smith was second with 31 and Barbara Sadler third with 30.

Suzy Allen came out as the winner of the Senior Ladies Trophy and Stableford 6 in Division 2 with 37 on countback from Barbara Sadler and Sally Thomas also with 37. Division 1 was won by Alice Cording with 35 who beat Shane Bordier into second place with 33 and Mary Wood also with 33.

The Ladies travelled to Farrington for the first Inter-League match of the season, where the home side proved too strong.

The Men’s Seniors had their first friendly match win when they beat Honiton last monday by 4.5 to 2.5.

This Thursday, Oake hold their Senior three-ball Bowmaker Open Competition with teams from entered from around the South West.

The A team played away to The Isle of Wedmore in the Avalon League and came away with a convincing 4-1 win, while the B team entertained Windwhistle at home and played out a 2½ to 2 ½ draw.

The Gardner Cup medal competition was played for last Saturday. The overall winner and winner of Division 1 was Brian Thomas with a net score of 64. Peter Litten was edged into second place with a net 65 and James Biggs playing off a handicap of 5 was third with a net 66. TheDivision 2 winner also with a net 66 was T. Nuttall.

TAUNTON Vale Golf Club ladies captain Lyn Gridley and her husband, Nigel, teamed up with Steve Blackmore and Neil Whisler to win the Bob Peilow Memorial Texas Scramble Competition which attracted 20 teams with a nett 56.

Second place went to Rob Loder, Lee Ward and Phil Howard 57.9. Rowena Bradum teamed up with Frank Penny ,Graham Yates and Alan Palmer to claim third spot with 58 while fourth place went to Lyn and Ron Brown who played with past captain Bill Campbell and Nigel Contreras and scored 58.4.

The Ladies Section Grandmother’s Trophy on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Cindy Saunders with 37 points, two ahead of immediate past captain Stevie Foster who took second spot with 35. Paula Cheek was third with 31 and Carole Paterson fourth (30).

The Grandmothers’ Supporters Trophy was won by Betty Norman with 34 points, with Shirley Gooding in second place with 31.

Last Wednesday’s Pairs Aggregate Stableford was won by Karen Sammons and Betty Norman with combined score of 76 points, second were Shirley Gooding and Jenny King with 73, with Pam Berry and Maggie Tolchard third with 67.

James Keitch was the winner in Division 1 of Saturday’s PGA Pro-Am (Medal) round but only after countback put him in front of James Popham after both returned with 65. Nigel Trott was third in the top flight with 68.

Richard New headed Division 2 with 66, two ahead of Lee Lewis who was second, while Bill Rooney was third on 69 (b9).

Rod Holley won Division3 with 66, three more than second placed John Winter, while Mike Hellings was third with 70.

The top division of Sunday’s Stableford competition was won by David Loader who returned to the clubhouse on 44, with Russell Peck hot on his heels with 43 in second spot. James Keitch was third with 36 points after countback over the back nine holes.

Division 2 was won by Darren Cross with 42, one ahead of John Bawler on 41, while Paul McKinley was third on 38 (b9).

PLAYED on May 1, the Pickeridge Golf Club stableford competition was won by Jonathan Bendle with a score of 44 points followed by JRC Sinclair with 38.

JPC Sinclair led Division 1 with 38 with Rupert Symes on 38 and Andy Collins on 37. Jonathan Bendle led Division 2 with 44 from Bob Irish 36 and Andy Berry also with 36. Division 3 was won by Adrian Howe with 33 from Nathan Beesley 31and SJ Stone 29.

The Ladies’ Ping fourball better ball competition was won by Louise Worth and Rosie Spragg with 43 points from Shela Beresford and Maureen Hailes with 41, Roisin Buree and Jacky Lynn with 40 and mary Guy and Pam Cleverly also with 40.

This Seniors Competition , in memory of Terry Mockeridge, was played as a Greensome won by the pairing of David Potter and Bob Lyon with 39 points from Seniors Captain Roger Nation and Frank Bird also on 39. In third place was the pairing of Tony Dowsett and Bill Spragg with 38.
