A MOSAIC of a macaw, designed by Sophie Clothier of Bishop Fox’s Community School in Taunton, has been chosen as the winner of an art competition.

The competition was held by hire company U-Drive to mark the opening of their Taunton branch and Sophie’s design is now adorning the side of one of the company’s vans.

Sophie’s mosaic was one of a dozen entries by Year 8 pupils at the school who had been asked to produce a piece of artwork on the theme of endangered species.

Two winning entries were chosen from Bishop Fox’s – Weronika Kozuck drew a magnificent cheetah which so impressed U-Drive they bought the original.

Category winners in the under 8, eight to12 and 13 plus sections each received £50 of vouchers and their schools a cheque for £100 while Sophie, as the overall winner, won £100 of vouchers for herself and a cheque for £300 for her school.

Bishop Fox’s have chosen to donate the money to the charity CAFOD – one of the favourite charities of their former assistant head teacher Delia de Val who died recently.

U-Drive manager Mark Hamblin said: “We were amazed at the volume of entries we received and the very high standard that was achieved.

“It gave the judges a very difficult decision and we would like to thank all the schools who took part.”
