THREE of the area’s Somerset League Division One sides made it two victories from as many matches on Saturday.

Staplegrove captain Dan Sizer followed up his half-century the previous week with a century in his team’s eight-wicket win at Purnells.

The hosts were restricted to 189-8 batting first, but Sizer’s 100 not out and an unbeaten 59 from Mike Bird saw Staplegrove ease to their target.

Taunton CS Radiac and Outcasts travelled to face Watchet and bowled their hosts out for 116 in 34 overs.

Ian Hosken led the way by taking 4-34, while opener Ed Martin top scored with 28 for the hosts.

Outcasts lost three quick wickets before a rain delay reduced their innings to 33 overs.

And, despite slipping to 48-5, the visitors raced home with seven overs to spare with Mike Warren making 48 not out and skipper Andrew Mason a hard-hit unbeaten 40.

Wellington also made it two out of two with a 49-run victory away to Barrington.

Wellington batted first and were bowled out for 216 in the final over.

Neil Hendy top scored with 70, while Aks Latifi contributed 34 and Mike Gill 30.

Hendy then completed an excellent day’s work by snapping up 5-29 in 8.1 overs as Barrington were dismissed for 167.

Ashbrittle’s tough start to the season continued as they suffered a six-wicket defeat at home to Westlands.

Rob Hill was Ashbrittle’s top scorer with 11, while extras contributed 21 as the hosts were bowled out for just 58.

Ashbrittle had some success with the ball, picking up four wickets, but their total simply was not enough to defend.

In Division Two, Stogumber crashed back down to earth after their big opening-day victory, with a five-wicket defeat at South Petherton.

James Weetch (22), Simon Penny (39), Harry Bowditch (36), James Rexworthy (24) and Rob Watts (25) all made contributions as Stogumber were bowled out for 198.

However, it was to prove insufficient as the home team reached their target for the loss of five wickets in 39 overs, Mark Walmsley hitting 76.

Skipper Chris Golding had a fine day with bat and ball as his side North Curry won by 43 runs at Lydford.

After losing early wickets, Golding helped his side reach a competitive 160-9 by hitting 57. In reply, Golding took 4-28 and Phil Sharpe 4-11 as the hosts were bowled out for 116.

In Division Four, Bagborough won by six wickets at home to Taunton St Andrews A, who batted first and made 157 all out. John Bishop bowled a superb spell of 5-18 from his 12 overs, while Andrew Venn top scored with 43 for Saints.

Bishop then made 32 and Tom McDonough 33 as Bagborough eased home in the 31st over.

In Division Five, Ian Keitch top-scored with 44 as Taunton Deane Cavaliers were bowled out for 137 at home to Meare, who just made it to their target for the loss of eight wickets, despite Kieron Ashton taking 4-44.

Taunton A suffered a crushing 206-run defeat at Broadway and Horton, who batted first and piled up 251-9.
