TAUNTON Blackbrook look set to be relegated from the Premier Division of the Errea Somerset County League.

They finished in the bottom three after only managing a 2-2 draw in Saturday’s final game at Cutters Friday, who stay up along with Glastonbury Town, courtesy of their draw at home to Watchet Town.

Blackbrook are now pinning their hopes on unconfirmed rumours of sides pulling out of the league, to hold on to their Premier Division status.

The league will confirm their constitution for next season at a management meeting next Tuesday (May 18).

Darren Rice’s effort gave Blackbrook a 1-0 lead at the interval at Cutters on Saturday.

However, the hosts levelled on the hour mark from the penalty spot after a foul by Dan Short and went in front five minutes later.

Blackbrook levelled when Rice’s corner went in off a defender and, despite hitting the woodwork no less than three times in the last 15 minutes, they could not find the goal that would have kept them up.

BISHOPS Lydeard secured runners-up in the Premier Division with a 4-1 victory at home to Nailsea United on Saturday.

Lydeard led 2-1 at the interval with two goals from Graham Mercieca, while Nailsea pulled one back from the penalty spot.

After the interval Mercieca went on to complete his hat-trick with Luke Desave also on the scoresheet.

It means Lydeard finish the season four points behind champions Bridgwater Town Reserves, with Watchet three points back in third.

A DEPLETED Watchet Town drew 1-1 away to Glastonbury Town in their final game of the season, as the hosts avoided relegation on goal difference.

The hosts went in front when a free-kick was curled beyond Watchet keeper Adam Bishop midway through the first half.

The Red and Blacks were level within five minutes with a free-kick of their own – Tayler Maddock firing a tremendous effort into the top corner from 30 yards out.

Chances were few and far between after the break, although Bishop saved a Glastonbury penalty after being penalised himself.
