ADULTS across Somerset are being encouraged to give learning a go as part of Adult Learners' Week from Saturday.

The message comes from Connect South West, one of the companies responsible for delivering the Nextstep service in the county.

It offers face-to-face careers information, advice and guidance sessions for individuals aged 20 plus whatever their current employment situation.

Connect South West chief executive Rachel Bendall said: “Nextstep is a free, friendly service that offers face-to-face help and advice on training, learning and the world of work.

“We have skilled and dedicated advisers who are able to give advice on a range of topics.

“It may be that you are currently unemployed and looking to return to work, thinking of a career change or that you want to update you skills but don’t know where to start.

“Adult Learning Week is the perfect opportunity to find out more about the options available to you.”

The service comprises of three elements - Universal, which is open to everyone, and is an initial information and advice session; Universal Plus, for people with Level 3 qualifications, i.e. A levels and higher, facing redundancy or having recently been made redundant; Differentiated Personalised Services, to support those holding Level 2 or below qualifications to develop their careers or re-enter the workplace following a period of unemployment.
