BISHOPS Lydeard produced the highest team score of the round as they totalled 198-2 against Watchet in the first round of the Herbert Baker Memorial Cup on Monday night.

Brian Stone led the way for Lydeard with 69 not out, before Watchet were bowled out for 126-3.

Staplegrove and Chard had to have a bowl out to settle their game, which finished with both sides on 127-7. Staplegrove triumphed 3-1 in cricket’s version of a penalty shootout.

Taunton scored 144-4 to record a six-wicket win at home to Brompton Ralph (140-5) with Jack Cooper making an unbeaten half-century for the hosts.

North Petherton – new entrants into the competition – entertained WEPL Premier One champions Taunton St Andrews, who went through with a 62 run win after making 165-6.

For Ilminster, G. Larcombe took 4-2 in his side’s 56 run win over Taunton CSRO, who were all out for 77.

Wellington skipper and opener Paul Short hit 90 not out to help his side reach 171-4. Rob Moysey then took 5-9 as Bagborough were all out for 117. John Bishop made 29 for Bagborough.

Taunton Deane A won away to Fitzhead and the Deane’s B side were narrowly edged out at Ashbrittle by a margin of five runs.
