SOUTH African Devon Conway hit a superb unbeaten 92 to guide Taunton Deane to a four-wicket victory at home to Bristol in Premier One of the West of England League on Saturday.

It was Deane’s first victory of the season as they have had two matches abandoned because of bad weather.

Spinner Pat Thomas picked up 3-20 as the visitors were bowled out for 120 in just 44.3 overs.

Conway then held firm as wickets fell around him to take the side home with more than 21 overs of their 55 remaining.

TAUNTON held on for a losing draw against Bridgwater in a high-scoring Premier One affair at Gipsy Lane.

The visitors batted first and piled up an imposing 295-4 with Michael Coles, fresh from an unbeaten ton the week before, hitting 66 and skipper Steve Davis adding 63 not out.

For Taunton, spinner Ben Orr picked up 2-52 from 11 overs but the side were hampered by an injury to in-form paceman Henry Carpenter, who could only send down two overs.

Taunton looked to be right in the hunt as openers Jack Cooper (88) and 17-year-old Australian Marcus Harris (65) put on 114 for the opening wicket in 23 overs.

Simon Manley (22) added 58 with Cooper for the second wicket but then the innnings fell away and Taunton’s hopes of victory began to disappear.

The impressive Cooper was eventually seventh out and the final pair of Carpenter and Orr were lef to block out the remaining three overs to secure a draw.
