Taunton CS Radiac and Outcasts have moved top spot in Division One of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League.

They won by four wickets away to Ashbrittle, while previous leaders Wellington suffered their first defeat – by 18 runs at home to Westlands.

Outcasts reduced Ashbrittle to 69-9 but a fine last wicket stand between youngsters Tommy Cole (24) and Sam Franks (25 not out) saw the side to 130 all out.

For Outcasts, Ian Hosken bagged 6-41, while new ball bowler Lewis Knight somehow finished wicket-less, despite bowling 12 overs off the reel, conceding just 12 runs with six maidens.

Outcasts reached their target in the 27th over with Greg Jackson 42 not out. Jack Bradbury picked up 4-40 for the hosts.

Wellington went down narrowly after a brave run chase against Westlands, who batted first and piled up 273-5 with M. Davis making a fine 110.

Michael Gill and Paul Short snapped up two wickets each for Wellington on a tough day for the bowlers.

After being reduced to 106-4, Wellington made a great attempt to reach their target but, despite Alex Sparks’ 79, they came up short.

Staplegrove suffered their second successive defeat as they went down by 38 runs at Belvedere, who batted first and made 212-4.

In reply, in-form skipper Dan Sizer made 51 and Mike Bird 40 but the visitors were all out for 174.

Watchet suffered a heavy 141-run defeat away to North Petherton. The home team scored a sizeable 237-9 batting first with Tom Williams making 59.

Martin Strong picked up 4-66 for Watchet who were then dismissed for just 96.

In Division Two, Stogumber cruised to a six-wicket victory away to North Newton.

N. Bennett bagged 3-3 from three overs as the hosts were bowled out for 122 and Stogumber needed just 27 overs to knock off the runs with Harry Bowditch making 60 not out.

In Division Three, North Curry went down by seven wickets in a high-scoring clash at Long Sutton.

Curry batted first and made 245-5, the highlight of which was a wonderful 121 not out from matt Golding. However, the hosts reached their target for the loss off three wickets with an over to spare.

Harry Paget-Wilkes (72) and P. Tilley (50) scored half centuries in Curry Rivel’s mammoth 292-7 at Fitzhead. Tilley then snapped up 4-21 as the hosts were bowled out for 193.

In Division Four, Bagborough won a thrilling, high-scoring game by just three runs at home to East Huntspill. The visitors batted first and reached 274-7 with two players scoring centuries.

In reply, Dan Tomkins made 43, captain John Bishop 87 and Pete Redford (59) were in the runs as the home team reached their target with two overs to spare.

Bartin St David scored 277-8 at home to Taunton St Andrews A even though just two players scored more than ten – D. Porter made 116 and D. Beal 95. Sam Venn then scored 43 as Saints were restricted to 141-9.

In Division Five, Taunton A won their first game of the season – by 47 runs away to Banwell and Churchill. Nigel Manley made 57 in Taunton’s 189-9 and Wayne Hitchcott bagged 5-25 as Banwell were dismissed for 142.

Charles Axon hit a fine 71 in Taunton Deane Cavaliers’ 205 all out away to Cranmore. However, the hosts made it to their target for the loss of three wickets with four balls to spare.

Sampford Arundel were skittled out for just 71 in reply to hosts Baltonsborough’s 236-9.

WELLINGTON maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the 2nd XI League Division Two with a four-wicket victory away to Temple Cloud.

The hosts batted first and were bowled out for 126, Alex Troake picking up 4-21. Trevor Brooks then made 51 against his old club as Wellington got home with 13 overs left.

In Division One, Jon England made 54 and Dan Fletcher 59 as Bishops Lydeard scored 226 all out at home to local rivals Staplegrove.

Miles Skuse then picked up 4-18 as Staplegrove were bowled out for 136.
