THE year when Kingsmead Community School in Wiveliscombe was deemed outstanding by OFSTED culminated in an outstanding set of GCSE results.

The school says the record-breaking results have bettered the targets set for the year group and puts the school well inside the band of the top 20% of similar schools in the country.

School figures show that 77% of students achieved at least five A*-C grades while 67% achieved at least 5A*-Cs including English and maths, and 97% of the year group achieved at least 5A*-Gs.

During a period of significant decline in the role of modern foreign languages in many schools, Kingsmead bucked the national trend with 93% of the year group achieving at least one GCSE grade at A*-C in either French, German or Spanish.

The school says this reflects the success of the school’s main specialism.

Head teacher Geoff Tinker said: “These results reflect once again, the amount of hard work put in by the students and staff, superbly supported by parents, governors and friends of the school.

“This group of young people should be very proud of their accomplishments and we know they will go onto even greater success in the future.

“Kingsmead remains committed to providing all students with high quality learning experiences that prepare them fully for the rigours of not only GCSE’s but further study and learning. We are very proud of the educational opportunities provided by the school and our success in GCSEs and other examinations reflects the standards that are set by all involved in Kingsmead.”
