A GLITTERING display of top quality floats enthralled large crowds at Wellington Carnival on Saturday.

The event was a roaring success, with some fantastic entries, while the mild, dry weather proved a bonus.

Organiser Josephine Chave said: “I thought it was a very good carnival and it ran very smoothly.

“We raised over £3,000 with the collection and were helped with the costs by Waitrose who gave us £1,100 in sponsorship.”

The cup for the best costumed float went to Harlequin CC with their imaginative entry called Geppetto’s workshop.

The overall winner will not be announced however until the carnival federation dance in November.
