CHILDREN at Knights Templar First School in Watchet have had a promising start to 2011 with a new library and a host of plans for the months ahead.

The new library, which will be officially opened soon, will offer an after-school Bookworms’ club and a Reading Den for younger children.

Frances Burns, who took over as head teacher in September last year, said: “We are creating new opportunities for parents to become involved in the school with ‘open’ lessons for adults to come and join in.

“Adults can share their artistic skills at a creativity week, too. Parents are also invited to our weekly Celebration Assemblies when we hand out special achievement awards.”

She said the school is working towards being awarded Healthy Schools Plus and Artsmark, and is already Dyslexia Friendly.

This year the school plans to stage Joseph as its summer production.

She added: “We use our local area and community to bring history and geography alive.

“We are fortunate to have extensive grounds, including a wild field with a pond and areas to explore in Forest School activities and to use in science.”

The children have been on visits to local museums and a trip to Pinkery Centre on Exmoor is planned for later in the year.
