Taunton Town Football Club’s home in Wordsworth Drive will again play host to an event to raise money for armed forces charities - this year on Saturday, July 16.

Last year almost £20,000 was divided between the military benevolent funds, the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

This year’s event will again centre around a football match between a Royal Marines XI and Taunton Town FC, as well as a friendly game between the family and relatives of two local soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan.

Other attractions include marching bands, displays, children’s activities and a raffle draw that includes prizes of air experience flights and professional photo-shoots.

One of the organisers, Graeme Stringer, said: “It is hoped further raffle prizes will be donated between now and the event and we’re encouraging any organisations willing to pledge gifts or services to get in touch.

“A great day out is guaranteed for the whole family while supporting the men and women of your armed forces!

“Cash donations are also very welcome with all proceeds going to the charities. Please send prizes or cheques (made payable to “Taunton Supporters Charity Match”) either directly to Taunton Town FC at the above address for the attention of Andy CLOAD or contact either of us at the above contact details.

The day runs from 10am to midnight and tickets cost £5 for adults, or £3 for pensioners and children under 16.

You can call Graeme on 07919-840813 or Taunton Town FC on 01823-254909 or fellow organiser Andrew Cload on 07834-117335 for further details. Prizes or cheques (made payable to “Taunton Supporters Charity Match”) can be sent to Taunton Town FC, TA1 2HG.
