New Exmoor brew tempts tipplers

8:05am Wednesday 13th September 2006

WEST Somerset tipplers are supping a new brew.

The first casks of Dunkery Ale, brewed with water from an Exmoor spring, have been delivered to a number of pubs across Exmoor.

The new ale is being produced in an old cattle shed at Edgcott Farm, Exford, converted to a state-of-the-art microbrewery.

Brewer, Exmoor born and bred Jim Winzer, told the County Gazette: "Dunkery Ales is the first real ale to be brewed on Exmoor, and the Park's first microbrewery."

He said currently the brew, with a strength of 4% alcohol, was being supplied to pubs, restaurants and hotels only.

"But later in the year the public will be able to order and pay for Dunkery Ales products online," he said.

The brewery has been set up with funding and support from Exmoor National Park Authority's sustainable development fund, West Somerset Council, Business Link, Connecting Somerset and Foodlink.

Dunkery Ale will be available at the seventh annual real ale festival staged by the Campaign For Real Ale at Minehead station this weekend.
