AROUND 2,000 people turned out to watch the Tour of Britain cycle race get underway earlier this morning.

They lined Taunton town centre as the riders - including star cyclist Mark Cavendish - got the sixth stage of the nationwide race underway.

They headed off to Wells.

THE Tour of Britain comes to Taunton today, with hundreds of spectators expected to line the town centre.

Stage six of the nationwide race pedals off from outside the Market House at 10.15am.

The riders will make their way through North Street, Bridge Street and Priory Bridge Road.

They will then head for Durston and Knapp and on to Fivehead, for the King of the Mountain trial at around 10.45am.

It's then across the Somerset Levels to langport at 11am, with the finish line at Wells at around 2.20pm.

The A3027 East Street, in Taunton, will be closed today until 2pm, with a rolling road closure along the route from 20 minutes before the first riders pass through until the last vehicle has passed.
