Taunton Racecourse hailed the success of their fireworks display on Saturday after nearly 5,000 people turned up to get a taste of the action.

The Wurzels performed for an hour before the 20-minute, £8,000 display began to wow the crowds.

Tomorrow (Friday), Taunton Rugby Club host their firework extravaganza along with a barbecue, refreshments, baked potatoes and a children’s sparkler corner.

The club are hoping to attract up to 2,000 people to the display. For a family ticket offer to the rugby club fireworks, turn to page 18.

*OTHER displays include: Staplegrove Scouts’ display off Manor Road, November 5, fire lit at 7pm; Wyvern Club, November 4, gates open from 6pm; Oake Manor Golf Club, November 5, gates open 5pm; Wiveliscombe Recreation Ground, 6.30pm.

I am glad the fireworks were such a success; we left early because there was so little to do for our small children and it was too long for them to wait to see the fireworks. There were few litter bins provided, not even any at some of the food stalls; the lighting in the car park was poor, you had to drive out of the site against the flow of traffic, there was not a clearly defined exit, the food was ridiculously expensive and of a poor quality, we shall not be going again, instead, we shall go to the FREE display on Burnham beach which is on earlier.
