UP to 580 homes, a new primary school and shops could be built on the edge of Taunnton.
Outline planning permission was this week granted to the Crown Estate for the development at Nerrols Farm, between the county town and Monkton Hethfield.
Taunton Deane Council planners approved the scheme subject to comments from West Monkton and Cheddon Fitzpaine parish councils, a 'planning gain' fee and various conditions.
There will also be open space planting and improvements to bus and cycling routes and footpaths.
Councillors will need to see detailed plans before they give the go ahead for the 'strategic urban extention'.
It is one of the larger applications dealt with by the Deane.
