A DIGGER was needed to help rescue a horse from a ditch near Wiveliscombe today.

A fire crew from the town was called to the scene at Huish Moor, Huish Champflower, just after midday where they were joined with a specialist rescue team from Barnstaple.

A spokesman said: “Upon arrival crews found a horse trapped in a water filled ditch.

“They set to work using straps around the horse and a mechanical digger to release the horse.

“The horse was successfully rescued and left in the hands of its owner and the vet.”
