THE new Tesco Express store replacing the Gardeners Arms pub in Taunton is set to open in April.
The Priorswood Road pub closed in September and building work has begun on the new store.
Boards have gone up around the site while the work takes place.

What you are effectively saying to small businesses is; we want you to be small and successful, but when you get big because of your success we shouldn't like you. Business is a very simple concept and Tesco is doing well because we all shop there. Convienience stores means that they are local to you and to be honest there isn't a Tesco that close to the proposed site. There are 2 co-op's within 500 metres of each other in priorswood, that doesn't seem to have caused any issues?
Is it a good thing that jobs are being created when it can affect the jobs of people who work in or run the small businesses within walking distance of where this store will be?????????????
The council clearly dont take this into account when they approve planning for such things.
Wonder if they'd be so quick to help those who this can potentially affect???!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!
I'm thinking NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to France and see how they do it, they have massive supermarkets like us, but the small independent businesses like boulangeries and patisseries are always thriving. I don’t use the bakers in Galmington because what they offer hasn’t changed for years. I’m not going to support a small business just because they are small. If they have something decent to offer then their business will succeed and grow. It’s a very simple concept.
You can also buy the same stuff in asda or morrisons but you don't see them sprouting up wherever they can!!!!!! The point is while Taunton Deane approve plans for these big, multi-million pound companies to put shops wherever they like, it has an affect on the smaller people of society. People who actually work hard to make a living in todays rubbish state. If these people end up losing their jobs/ business, Taunton Deane won't be so quick to help them out as they have Tesco!!!!!!!
