Police have charged a man on suspicion of attempted murder following two incidents in North Devon in the early hours of Saturday, March 3.

Paul Vose, aged 65, remains in custody and will appear before Exeter magistrates Court sitting on Wednesday, March 14.

Officers were called to Atlantic Way, Westward Ho! Around 1.20am after reports of a road traffic collision.

A silver coloured Audi had left the carriageway and collided with a wall. The male driver of the car (and only occupant) was cut free from the vehicle by the fire service and taken to North Devon District Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to Derriford Hospital with serious chest, leg and arm injuries.

As a result of information passed to police following the collision officers attended a property in Northam after a reports a woman at the address had been stabbed.

The woman, in her fifties, was treated by paramedicsfor stab wounds to her back, arms and abdomen. She remains in a serious but stable condition.

The 65 year-old driver of the Audi was arrested for attempted murder.

Police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incidents but officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information and ask them to call police on 101 quoting reference CD/12/426.
