UPDATE: 5.30pm: A PIG was rescued from flood water in Station Road, Washford, today.

Crews used a rope and harness to lift the pig out of 1ft of water.

It was handed back to the farmer unharmed

UPDATE 12.10pm: THE Environment Agency says there's some respite for Somerset after less rain fell than expected last night.

A spokesman said they are "closely monitoring" the situation and are waiting for the next belt of rain due on Thursday.

UPDATE 8.30am, May 1: A YELLOW warning of severe weather has been issued by the Met Office after overnight rain hit the region.

April has been recorded as the wettest in over a century, meaning all of Somerset's rivers are still on flood warning.

In the early hours of this morning, fire crews attended a blocked drain in Station Road, Washford, which was causing flooding.

UPDATE 3.45pm: AROUND 2ft of water filtered into the basement of a property in Milverton Road, Tonedale, Wellington, this morning.

A large amount of water was threatening properties in Station Road, Williton. Crews were working to clear debris from the storm drains.

Fire and rescue crews also attended flooding incidents at Lowmoor Industrial Estate, Wellington, and Yew Tree Lane at Bathpool, Taunton.

Cross Key at Norton Fitzwarren also fell victim to the heavy rainfall.

In Ruishton, a man was rescued from his car in floodwater on Lipe Lane.

UPDATE 11.30am: THE annual It's Childsplay event due to end up in Taunton's Vivary Park on Sunday has been postponed due to the weather.

The fundraiser, organised by the Rotary Club of Tauton Vale, features people walking to the park from various locations for activities and entertainment.

A group of fathers who have lost a child had planned to walk from Minehead to Taunton on the day.

Organisers hope to set another date for the event, which supports the Children's Hospice South-West.

UPDATE: 8am: SOMERSET continues to be battered by heavy rain and high winds this morning (April 30).

The B3227 at Hillcommon is only just passable and there is standing water on many local roads.

Firefighters were called to the Shell garage in Priory Bridge Road, Taunton, at about 8am but have since left the scene. The roundabout next to the garage also has a flood round most of it.

On Sunday, gusts in excess of 60mph hit our region which, along with torrential downpours, forced the Met Office to upgrade its severe weather warning for the South-West.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service have also been called out to numerous reports of trees falling down, debris on the roads and flooding, causing delays for commuters.

The Environment Agency has also put parts of Somerset on flood alert.

River levels on the Hawkcombe Stream at Porlock, Washford River at Beggearn Huish and Monksilver Stream at Williton are all reported rising.

It follows on from last night's flood alert for Exmoor's rivers, issued at 5.30pm.

Taunton Deane Cricket Club has also fell foul to the wild weather as their ground near Vivary Park finds itself under two feet of water.

Players and committee members were at the ground on Sunday trying to save their clubhouse from the rising water.

There was also flooding at properties in Nethercott, near Lydeard St Lawrence and at Bickenhall and at West Buckland where three people had to be rescued from a first floor property.

Around 100 homes in Taunton went without electricity while many more in the Wiveliscombe area were without power from about 1pm to 3pm on Sunday.

There are also reports of flooding in places on Hayden Lane between Chestnut Drive and Henlade.
